Enfranchisement

Enfranchisement in the context of residential property means the right to:

Collectively buy the freehold of a block of flats; or

Extend the lease of a flat; or

Buy the freehold of a leasehold house, or extend the lease of the house.

The right to enfranchise is particularly important when the value of a flat is falling due to the length of the lease or where tenants are keen or need to take control of the management of their block.

The process is not without cost, but the end result will inevitably improve the value of the flat or house. In many cases the value released can make a very significant profit for the tenant. We act for both landlords and tenants in this area and have developed good working relationships with valuers expert in this field.
